Department of Shalaklya Tantra (ENT & Opthalmology) :
Ayurveda is broadly classified into 8 parts called as Ashtanga Ayurveda. Shalakya Tantra is one part of Ashtanga Ayurveda which deals with the diseases of Urdhav-jatru means body parts above the clavicle. Mainly this part deals with the diseases of eyes, mouth, nose, ear, dentistry etc. To treat these diseases Shalaka (Probe) is used. Hence the subject is called as 'Shalakya Tantra".
